Abstract:

This study evaluates the 2023 Business Entrepreneurship Readiness initiative at The Gambia University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology—a university-based incubation program aimed at advancing youth enterprise development. Employing a practice-based action research methodology within a descriptive programme evaluation and institutional case study, the research draws on administrative records, participant surveys, formal observations, and programme documentation. The initiative integrated staff development with a five-week incubation intervention for 40 youth entrepreneurs. Participation was high at 92.5%, with nearly 89% advancing to the pitching phase. Approximately 90% of participants reported that the programme met their needs, 92% affirmed its objectives were achieved, and all respondents expressed willingness to recommend it. The findings also highlight institutional learning in facilitator capability, stakeholder mobilization, infrastructure, and adaptive delivery. Overall, the study demonstrates how resource-constrained universities can leverage internal and ecosystem resources to enhance entrepreneurial capacity and venture readiness.
